"The Strip" is the twenty-sixth episode in the first season of the Fox drama series The O.C.. The episode aired on the twenty-eighth of April, in 2004.
Synopsis[]
Sandy, Jimmy, Ryan, and Seth all head to Las Vegas for Caleb's bachelor party. Jimmy and Sandy learn about Caleb's motives for the restaurant while Ryan and Seth get in trouble with gamblers and strippers. Kirsten plans Julie's bachelorette party back in Newport where Hailey and Julie's tension rises. Summer goes after Seth and Marissa spends some time with Theresa where Marissa discovers a life-changing revelation that would affect her relationship with Ryan.
Plot[]
Seth wakes up Ryan on the floor who is now sleeping in Seth's room. He starts talking about his relationship with Summer and asks if he should talk to her. He then brings up Ryan's love life since his ex-girlfriend Theresa is now sleeping in his room while his current girlfriend, Marissa, must not be okay with it. Ryan says she is fine with it and Seth sarcastically brings up how Marissa is fine just like he would be if Oliver was sleeping on Marissa's couch. Seth asks Ryan if he is at all curious as to when Theresa is leaving to which Ryan says no. They both stop talking and attempt to go back to sleep when Ryan says he should talk to Theresa. Ryan and Seth go to the pool house looking for Theresa when she emerges from the bathroom a little shaken up. She tells them she won't be there for much longer and plans on getting in touch with some family. They all awkwardly say goodnight to each other and Ryan and Seth leaves. Theresa goes through her things and pulls out a pregnancy test.
Seth questions his relationship with Summer and if she will break up with him.
The next morning, Julie and Caleb are going through some destinations for their wedding. Caleb says he agrees with whatever she wants. Caleb appears to have been avoiding both Julie and Kirsten but doesn't tell them why. Caleb then finally tells them both that he is going out of town to Las Vegas for business. He seems flustered and they assume he is having his bachelor party there. Seth and Ryan walk in and Seth tells Sandy he should go. Kirsten says she can take care of Theresa while the boys join Caleb. Sandy visits Jimmy for breakfast who is looking for a new home for him and Marissa. Sandy says he is taking his half of the money from Caleb and going to Vegas and invites Jimmy along. A realtor comes by and says how Robert Campbell is going to turn the area the restaurant is in into a mall. The realtor reveals that it is now Caleb who will make a fortune with selling the restaurant to Campbell.
A Harbor, Marissa tells Ryan how much she hates Caleb for blackmailing her and that she hasn't told her dad still that she is moving out. Marissa says she has to over the weekend before the wedding. Ryan says how Jimmy is going to Vegas this coming weekend because he is also going. Marissa asks what for and Ryan tells her. Marissa jokes about how there will be strippers and everything which Ryan also jokes about. Ryan says he can't go because he can't leave Theresa by herself. Marissa takes offense to this and Ryan says that Marissa at least has Summer and her sister but Theresa doesn't have anyone. Marissa responds saying that if she is Ryan's girlfriend, then any friend of his is a friend of hers and asks him if she is right. Ryan kisses Marissa and tells her that she is his girlfriend. Marissa jokingly brings up the strippers again which Ryan jokes about not knowing, they laugh and make out.
Julie is telling Kirsten how she wants strippers at her bachelorette party. Kirsten suggests she could throw a more casual cocktail bachelorette party but Julie is persistent on getting strippers. Julie says that the boys are getting strippers and thinks they should get some as well. Kirsten finally gives in. Seth tells Summer he is going to Vegas which she doesn't take well. Seth says he knows he should tell her saying he thinks they are still a couple even though she has been ignoring him. Seth asks Summer if what her dad, Neil, thinks of Seth is getting in the way of their relationship. Summer defends her dad to which Seth responds saying he cares about Summer a lot, not her dad, and feels as if it isn't good enough for her. Seth says he is going to Vegas and leaves.
Ryan gets home and asks Theresa to hang out with him and Marissa but she tells him she is working again. Theresa says she needs to make more money if she is going to move to Atlanta to be with her family. She explains to Ryan it's her way of getting a second chance. Ryan asks how much she needs and Theresa says $2,000... Theresa tells him not to worry and enjoy his time in Vegas. Seth, Marissa, and Ryan devise a plan to help get the money. Marissa and Seth pitch in and that Ryan will win the rest by doing some gambling in Vegas. Seth says they will do so with their fake IDs. Marissa says she will take care of Theresa while they go win at blackjack. If Ryan looses, Theresa never has to know. Ryan agrees.
Ryan, Marissa, and Seth devise a plan to win some money in Vegas for Theresa.
The boys arrive in Vegas and head to the Hard Rock Hotel in a limo. Caleb is wondering why they are at the Hard Rock Hotel versus Caesar's Palace to which Seth says the Hard Rock is better. A stewardess approaches them and asks which one is Mr. Cohen. Seth and Sandy step forward but Seth shakes her hand and says how they spoke on the phone. The stewardess takes them to the penthouse and Sandy asks whose card Seth put it on to which Seth laughs and says Caleb's. They get to their room and find out they have a bowling lane in their room. Caleb is the only one not pleased and argues it's like they are in a frat house. Seth and Ryan run into a problem of using their IDs, afraid they will get caught and thrown out of the hotel. Ryan says they can go find another hotel instead. Caleb is gambling and gets a phone call from someone. Sandy asks Caleb what he is doing with the restaurant and he asks Sandy what he is doing with the money Caleb payed him for the restaurant. Sandy tells him he is still deciding but that Jimmy is buying a home for him and Marissa. Caleb then tells Sandy that Marissa is going to stay with him and Julie.
Seth expresses his love for their hotel room in Vegas.
In Newport, Marissa, Summer, and Hailey are watching The Valley. Hailey says how unfair it is that the boys are in Vegas and they are watching a marathon for The Valley. Marissa says that it's Summer's favorite show and turns to Summer who is crying. Marissa tells Hailey how Summer broke up with Seth. Hailey asks why and Marissa says it's because her dad didn't approve. Hailey says that she's dating a felon and Marissa says how Julie still doesn't approve of Ryan. Hailey overshares about here sex life in front of Marissa when the doorbell rings. Hailey answers it to find Kirsten at the door, wanting to speak with her alone. Marissa and Summer head upstairs to give them some space. Kirsten asks Hailey to get her a stripper for Julie's bachelorette party. Hailey asks why Kirsten is doing this because she doesn't even like Julie and lets her walk all over her. Hailey agrees to get her one.
Marissa, Summer, and Hailey are all bummed out about the boys being in Vegas.
In Vegas, Ryan and Seth are walking around the pool and admiring the Vegas life. He says he hasn't been thinking about Summer but Ryan says he left here a message on her answering machine in the hotel room. Seth says that he feels more confident in talking to women. Ryan encourages Seth to go for it but Seth starts making excuses. A girl comes up to Seth asking to kiss him to get rid of another guy. Her name is Jenn and asks to buy them a drink. Before Seth can answer, he gets a call from Summer. Seth answers and Summer starts talking to him but Jenn grabs Seth saying she has to kiss him again. Jenn says that Seth is an amazing kisser while he is still on the phone with Summer. Summer hangs up the phone and tells Marissa that Seth is kissing someone else. Summer is beside herself since she has been crying over Seth. Marissa tries to get her to put it behind her since they are going to have a girl's night out. Summer says she just wants to kick Seth's ass and back in Vegas, Seth says that Summer is going to kick his ass. Jenn apologizes, not knowing that Seth had something going on. She offers them a ride and tells them that she lives there and goes to UNLV. Ryan says they are just visiting but looking to play blackjack. Jenn suggests a game of poker hosted by guys in her class instead. Ryan and Seth agree to go.
Seth works up the courage to talk to other girls even with Summer on his mind.
Sandy finds Jimmy and tells him how he still can't figure out Caleb's plans with the restaurant. Jimmy says that he doesn't really mind since he can now afford a house. With this, Sandy reveals to Jimmy what Caleb told him about Marissa. Theresa is with Marissa and she says how Summer decided to go home. Theresa says she would rather stay in if Marissa is okay with it. Marissa starts listing off places they could order from but Theresa says she can't have sushi or liquor. Marissa jokes at her saying she must be pregnant to which Theresa doesn't deny.
Jenn brings Seth and Ryan to a bar where the guys play Texas Hold 'Em for big money. Ryan says that they don't have to do this but Seth wonders about Theresa. Ryan says that Theresa isn't Seth's responsibility to which Seth says she isn't either. Seth gives Ryan the money and wishes him luck. Marissa and Theresa sit in silence after Theresa's pregnancy is revealed. Theresa tells her she hasn't told anyone yet and Marissa promises to keep her secret. Theresa no longer wants to keep it to herself despite Marissa's hesitance in talking about it. Marissa asks her if she knows what she will do. Theresa says she doesn't even have the money to get to Atlanta let alone afford to have a baby. Marissa encourages Theresa to talk to Eddie but she refuses to since he would convince her to get married and then have the baby but doesn't know whose it is. Marissa asks who else could be the father and she figures it out, Ryan.
Marissa figures out that Ryan might be the father of Theresa's baby.
In Vegas, Seth is waiting at the bar for Ryan to finish up his game. Ryan's game is very intense with another guy in the game but he ultimately ends up winning a very good amount of money. Seth comes up to him and encourages him to win more for themselves. Jenn joins them and they invite her back to the hotel room and Seth encourages her to bring her friends as they head back. At the Cohens, Kirsten is hosting Julie's bachelorette party there and Julie is anxious for the stripper to come. The doorbell rings and Julie assumes it is the stripper come to find out that it is Hailey. Julie is not happy to see her but Hailey says that Kirsten invited her. Just then, four strippers walk in dressed as fire fighters and a few of them pick Julie up and head for the living room with the rest of the guests.

Sandy calls Kirsten and she is glad to hear it is him and tells him about the strippers. Sandy asks Kirsten if she thinks it is weird that even though Caleb helped them and is one of the most powerful men in Newport, they were still denied their liquor license. Kirsten says that the one who denied them was a client of Jimmy's to which Sandy says there is no way Caleb doesn't know anyone else on the liquor board. Kirsten wonders why Caleb would do this, starting to catch on to what Sandy is getting at. Sandy says it was so Caleb could buy Jimmy and Sandy and make an even bigger profit from Robert Campbell, earning 10x as much. Kirsten asks what he is going to do and Sandy plans on talking to Caleb.
Seth, Ryan, and Jenn get back to the hotel. Jimmy runs into Ryan who is leaving a message for Marissa. He asks Ryan if he knows anything about Marissa moving in with Julie and Caleb. Ryan figures that Marissa finally told Jimmy but he says she didn't. Jimmy tells Ryan he heard from Caleb which Ryan says he doesn't understand because they had a deal. Jimmy asks Ryan what the deal was. Summer arrives at the Hard Rock Hotel looking for Seth and asks the stewardess what room Seth is in. Jenn comes into the bathroom with Seth and tries seducing him. Jenn starts making out with Seth when the door opens and Summer yells at him while also calling Jenn a whore and a skank. More of Jenn's friends walk in along with two guys who are managing them. Ryan figures out that Jenn is a prostitute along with her friends. They owe $5,000 for the prostitutes. Summer and Seth begin to argue about their breakup and her dad. Summer chips in some of her money but they are still short. Jenn encourages them to go win more money.
Summer assumes that the boys have been hanging out with strippers.
At Julie's bachelorette party, it's coming to a close when a stripper ask Julie to go home with him. She agrees and thanks Kirsten for the party when Julie sees the same stripper talking with Hailey. Kirsten tells Julie that they are old friends and that Hailey helped get the strippers. Julie figures it out that Hailey got one of her stripper friends to try and seduce Julie so that she could tell Caleb. Hailey starts talking about how often Julie goes after money and then calls Julie a whore. Julie slaps Hailey and they start fighting. They push each other into the pool and continue fighting.
Sandy crashes Caleb's dinner meeting with Robert Campbell and begins talking about the location Caleb is planning on selling to Robert. Sandy goes on talking about the restaurant he wanted to open there and how they couldn't get a liquor license. Caleb starts to intervene and put an end to Sandy's rant but Sandy continues. He says how a partner went behind their back and denied the license so he could sell it to someone else for much more. Sandy looks at Caleb so that Robert knows he is talking about Caleb. Caleb gets up as Sandy tells Robert that the property isn't worth anything and Caleb grabs Sandy. Jimmy barges in and punches Caleb across the face. Caleb falls to the ground and Sandy holds him back as Jimmy shouts at him for his manipulation and blackmailing Marissa.
Ryan is back in the game but looses this time around. Ryan asks for more money but she doesn't give him any. Ryan reveals he lost on purpose so that he could win more after giving another guy more confidence. Later, Ryan won the game and they were able to pay off the strippers, but they didn't get enough to help Theresa. Seth, Ryan, and Summer are walking around talking about their night and how they will have good stories to talk about.
Seth and Summer make up in Vegas after she went after him.
The next morning, Sandy gets home and goes to wake Kirsten. They catch up and Kirsten tells him how Julie and Hailey fought to which Sandy says that Jimmy punched Caleb. Sandy says it is so much better coming home to Kirsten then being in Vegas. Ryan visits Marissa who is mad he told her dad. Ryan says he had to tell Jimmy the truth and Marissa gets mad that he can tell her dad the truth but not her. Ryan is confused and Marissa starts to close the door saying he should talk to Theresa. Ryan stops her and walks in asking what is going on. Marissa tells Ryan that Theresa is pregnant and that it might not be Eddie's. Marissa then asks Ryan to explain himself but there are no words.
