Sandy reluctantly agrees with Kirsten to serve as host/auctioneer at yet another Orange County benefit. Meanwhile, Trey lies to Ryan to prove that he can be self-dependent when he steals an auction exhibit leading Ryan and Seth on a mission to recover it before anyone finds out. Carter reinvigorates Seth and Zach's comic book dream, much to the annoyance of Summer. Marissa moves in with the Cohens while Julie and Caleb head to Europe.

Plot[]

Trey is making breakfast when Ryan, Seth, and Sandy walk in. Trey asks Sandy for surf lessons and Kirsten walks in saying that he has been trying to get her out in the water forever. Kirsten gets a call from Julie and takes it to the living room. Seth tells Trey Julie is Marissa's mom and Trey interprets her more as Ryan's mother in law. Sandy is shocked to find out that Ryan and Marissa are nearly back together but Ryan tries to deny it. Seth, Sandy, and Trey don't believe him and finally Ryan admits that they are taking it slow. They all cheer and Sandy says it's good Marissa is no longer their neighbor because that would just force things to speed up. Kirsten comes back to the kitchen and tells the boys that Julie and Caleb are going to Europe and that Marissa will be staying with them.

Seth, Sandy, Ryan, and Trey - The Risky Business 4

Ryan tells Seth, Sandy, and Trey that he is taking things slow with Marissa as they are closer to getting back together.

Marissa is packing her things while Summer talks about her staying with the Cohen's. Marissa says she can keep an eye on Summer's boyfriend to which she jokes she can keep an eye on her own boyfriend (hinting at Ryan). Marissa denies it as well and Summer questions what might happen with them staying under the same roof. Marissa says that nothing will happen but Summer doesn't think so and points out her cutesy pajamas. Marissa says it will be too hot to wear flannel pajamas and Summer says it will be too hot for Ryan. Marissa packs her flannel pajamas just in case. Kirsten gets off the phone with one of the Newpsies and asks Sandy to fill her chair in the OC benefit. Sandy denies it right away until Kirsten talks up the position and says he really would just be a figurehead.

Marissa and Summer - The Risky Business

Marissa also tries to deny to Summer what is going on between her and Ryan.

Sandy tells the boys about his position in the benefit and that he needs their help. Ryan and Seth are happy to finally say they have school and Trey finally has a small job, working with Sandy and the Newpsies. Sandy tells Trey about the Newpsies and some of them ask for Trey's help with heavy lifting. Sandy is about to leave until one of them asks him to pick out things and tells him it isn't just a figurehead position. Sandy realizes that Kirsten tricked him into it. Seth is joking with Ryan about Marissa saying that they will eventually end up making out at some point just as Marissa interrupts. Seth hurries off and she asks if he was talking about her. Marissa asks if it is going to be awkward which Ryan laughs at and asks her if their conversation is awkward. Marissa says no and then Ryan hurries off saying he will see her at home. Ryan sees Seth at his locker and pushes him into it and Seth tells Ryan not to blame him.

Seth - The Risky Business

Seth tells Ryan not to blame him for his sexual tension with Marissa.

Zach approaches Seth at his locker and they talk about a new movie coming out. They talk about their love for comics and how they are trying to put them behind them since Summer said so due to their debacle and disastrous meeting in The Lonely Hearts Club. Trey gets a firsthand experience on the snottiness of the Newpsies and notices an antique from the movie, Risky Business. He realizes it is the famous egg in the movie that is being sold for ten thousand dollars. Marissa arrives at the Cohen's and she thanks Kirsten for letting her stay and she tries to figure out where to put Marissa. Seth and Ryan are going through his comics and he continues to make jokes about Marissa. Ryan leaves to find Trey and he barges into the pool house to find Marissa, nearly topless, inside instead of Trey. Marissa tells him that Kirsten moved Trey and Ryan awkwardly apologizes just as Seth comes up behind him and quickly turns away. Marissa jokes about it and Ryan continues to awkwardly stand in the doorway. Ryan shuts the door and Seth teases him. Ryan watches Marissa's shadow and snaps out of it, walking back into the house.

Ryan and Marissa - The Risky Business

Ryan walks in on Marissa who is nearly topless.

Ryan is laying awake in bed struggling to sleep. He checks the time and it's nearly six in the morning and he gets out of bed and heads for the kitchen. Marissa is also struggling to sleep in her flannel pajamas. She checks the time and it's six in the morning... Ryan grabs milk from the fridge just as Marissa walks in. They both tell each other they couldn't sleep and he offers her some cereal. Ryan gets bowls and spoons for them both as he makes fun of her pajamas. Marissa tells him she gets cold and he asks her how the pool house is. Marissa says it's weird since the only time she's ever slept in there, she was with Ryan (referring to The Perfect Couple when they fell asleep together and other times throughout their relationship in Season 1). Ryan and Marissa share some tension and are about the grab each other's hands just as Trey walks in and interrupts. Trey notices he was interrupting them and then tells Ryan he is going to go apartment hunting. Marissa offers to show him a place to which Ryan is unsure of. Trey says he needs to move out as he thinks he is getting in the way, meaning Ryan and Marissa.

Ryan and Marissa - The Risky Business 4

Marissa says she only felt comfortable with Ryan in the pool house.

Ryan and Seth are taking photos of the auction items and he asks if they have ran into each other. Ryan doesn't answer him and continues to say that nothing is going on. Seth nearly knocks over the egg and Ryan runs to catch it before it falls. Sandy is REALLY into his position now and continues to harp on the Newpsies about their work ethic. Kirsten walks in with Carter and she attempts to take over for Sandy who continues to be heated with the Newpsies. Marissa shows Trey Alex's old apartment and he really likes it. The landlord asks for the rent which adds up to be around three thousand dollars, money Trey doesn't have yet. Marissa helps get Trey a chance to work on fixing things in other apartments to help decrease the offer. The landlord agrees and Trey thanks Marissa and signs the papers.

Zach helps Seth take more pictures of the auction pieces, including the comics they are going to donate. Carter walks in and talks with him about their comic book. Zach tells Carter about how they almost sold it except Seth had a meltdown. Seth reveals he has been writing more comic stories but he says he can't go ahead with attempting another comic without Summer's approval. Seth goes to Summer and she can immediately tell he wants something. Seth says he was talking with Zach about their passions and Summer brings up the past comic and if it is about that, she will kill them both.

Seth and Summer - The Risky Business

Seth cozies up with Summer who immediately knows he needs something.

Kirsten jokes about the auction and Sandy says he just likes to watch the Newpsies squirm and could care less about the actual auction. Sandy says how much he likes Carter and how he really wants to be friends with him. Ryan is playing video games when Trey tells him about his apartment he got. The phone rings and Marissa answers it to find the landlord wanting to talk to Trey. The landlord tells Trey his background check didn't work out and they can't give take his offer. Marissa was listening to the conversation and Ryan asks if everything was okay. Trey lies to him and says he will work for the money until then. Ryan says he is proud of him and Trey tells him to thank Marissa since it was her idea. Ryan looks at Marissa who smiles at him and then Trey looks at her who looks away.

Ryan has trouble sleeping once again but notices Trey isn't there. He waits for Trey who gets back around six in the morning. Ryan questions where he was and what he was doing. Trey says that he was working on things for the landlord which Ryan isn't sure he believes. Later, Trey brings Marissa breakfast and she declines it, telling him she heard the call with the landlord. She is even more mad that he didn't tell Ryan but Trey says he will come up with the money. Marissa offers her help but Trey says he has it covered. Marissa warns him that if he does something stupid, it will hurt Ryan.

Seth suggests a new hobby for him and Zach to share, baseball cards. Zach is not interested and Seth says that Summer will not approve if they continue with the comics. Zach is surprised he won't continue with his passion because of her to which Seth says Summer threatened to kill them both. Zach then agrees with the baseball cards. Carter comes to the door wanting to speak with Zach and Seth. He reveals to them that he arranged their meeting and Seth hesitates. Zach says they can get a second chance and that technically, it's a graphic novel, not a comic book. Seth gives in. Summer helps Marissa look for auction items she can sell to help Trey get money for the apartment. Summer and Marissa find an antique tea set that has to be at least a couple thousand dollars. Ryan helps Trey tie his tie just as Sandy walks in saying he is impressed.

Marissa and Summer walk in with the tea set and Kirsten immediately asks her where she found it. Marissa says Julie put it in the basement with other things she plans on getting rid of and heads to the back to get it ready to sell. Summer overhears Seth and Zach and asks if they are bringing back the comic book. Zach and Seth backpedal in fear as Summer questions if they are going to ruin their friendship again. Zach and Seth say it won't be like before and that they already said yes to a meeting. Summer warns them that if anything goes wrong, there will be no graphic novel, comics, or even her and makes them all pinky swear. Marissa brings Ryan the tea set and he thanks her again for helping Trey. He then asks if things are going good to which she hesitatingly says yes and leaves. Ryan is getting all the auction items together and notices the egg from Risky Business is missing, he immediately figures out it was Trey.

Ryan and Marissa - The Risky Business 7

Ryan questions Marissa as to why Trey would steal if everything with the apartment is presumably okay.

Ryan finds Marissa and tells her how the egg is missing to which she realizes it was Trey as well. Ryan doesn't understand why he would do so if everything is going great and she tells him that Trey lied. Ryan then asks her why she didn't tell him and Trey interrupts them, saying he told Marissa not to. Trey continues to lie to Ryan and finally tells him that he sold the egg. Ryan gets mad at him, saying that he continues to think of himself. Trey thinks they can still get the egg back and Ryan takes the money and leaves to get the egg back. Sandy starts the auction off and thanks Kirsten and Carter who are helping support the benefit. Ryan tells Marissa he is leaving to get the egg before anyone notices and she grabs Summer to have her help stall the auction.

Marissa and Summer - The Risky Business 2

Marissa and Summer offer themselves as Sandy's assistants to help stall the auction benefit.

Marissa and Summer head up to the stage and Marissa tells her they need to stall until Ryan gets back. Sandy is about to announce the first item when Marissa and Summer interrupt. Marissa says that they are his assistants and Sandy welcomes them. Seth goes after Ryan and asks what he is doing and offers to be his wingman. Seth says he is the perfect cover since he never gets to go with Ryan on these heists. Ryan agrees if Seth stops making comments about him and Marissa. Ryan agrees and throws Seth the keys which he fails to catch. Sandy is auctioning off the items pretty quickly, scarring Marissa and Summer.

Summer - The Risky Business 2

Summer auctions off her shoes to an older guy.

Sandy starts auctioning off the antique tea set to which Kirsten ends up buying. Ryan and Seth get to the house Trey sold the egg to and Seth has a plan. Sandy gets to the egg and Marissa tells Summer to do something since it is the item Trey stole. Summer offers her shoes off to be auctioned off and some older guy buys them. Ryan goes around the back of the house while Seth goes to the front door. Seth creates a story about the egg and Tom Cruise while Ryan sneaks in from the back and takes the egg. Ryan takes the egg and one guy goes after him while the other goes after Seth. Both of the guys end up going after Ryan so he decides to throw the egg to Seth.

Marissa and Summer present the next auction items which just so happen to be Zach and Trey. Seth ends up catching the egg but falls in the process, the egg does not break. Ryan gives them their money back and runs to the car with Seth. Sandy gets back to auctioning off the egg but Ryan and Seth aren't back with it yet. Panicking, Summer and Marissa take the mic from Sandy and start describing the egg to the audience, calling it a blind auction. Ryan and Seth finally get back before the item is sold off and Sandy stalls as well until Seth and Ryan enter the auction. The egg is given to the buyer successfully.

Seth -The Risky Business

Seth catches the egg in a similar manner like Tom Cruise does in Risky Business.

Back at the Cohen's, Ryan thanks Seth for his help just as Sandy comes in suspicious of what happened at the auction. He assumes it was because of Trey. Sandy says that Seth and Ryan need to tell him when something is going on. Marissa gives Trey the money that she received from selling the antique tea set. Marissa says she was going to help him all along and Trey says he wanted to do it on his own. Trey fears that Ryan won't forgive him and Marissa says she will talk to him. Kirsten finds a place for the tea set and Marissa tells her that she would have given it to her for free if she knew Kirsten wanted it. Kirsten says that her mom would have been proud to have her tea set auctioned off for charity. Marissa feels terrible but Kirsten assures her it is okay.

Marissa finds Ryan outside by the pool and she sits down to talk with him. Marissa asks Ryan what he will say to Trey but Ryan doesn't want to talk to him. Trey is leaving in the morning and Ryan says he doesn't care where he goes when he leaves. Marissa tells him that Trey will be living in Alex's old apartment and she got him the money. Ryan thanks Marissa and he notices she is cold. Ryan offers his jacket and puts it around Marissa. Ryan and Marissa nearly kiss until she gets a call from her mom, saying she is coming over to pick her up and take Marissa home. Marissa goes to the pool house to pack up her stuff.

  • Seth: It's on.
  • Sandy: Really? I'm always the last to know.

  • Trey Atwood: Oh really? 'Cause that's not what it looked like the other night, you coming to Marissa's rescue and all.
  • Sandy: Well, he's very chivalrous, not unlike the young Steve McQueen.
  • Seth: Yeah, some people say chivalry's dead. I don't believe it.
  • Ryan: There's nothing going on with me and Marissa.
  • Sandy: Nothing?

  • Seth: Ryan...
  • Ryan: We're taking it slow.
  • Trey Atwood, Sandy: Yeah! Taking it slow! Alright!

  • Kirsten: So, Caleb and Julie are off on their trip.
  • Sandy: What are we gonna do without them?

  • Seth: That'll keep things at a snail's place.
  • Seth: Let me just paint a picture of what could maybe happen. Now it's late at night and your thirsty. SO is she. So you meet up at the fridge. 'Hey.' 'Hey.' 'Yoo-hoo?' 'Maybe just you. Let's kiss on the mouth.' 'Okay.'

  • Marissa: Weird. You know the only time I've ever slept in that bed, I was with you.

Trivia[]

  • The music being played intermittently in the background throughout the episode is the same as from the movie, Risky Business, which features the crystal egg. Notably, the scene where Seth catches the egg falling through the air in slow motion is very similar to the ending of the movie.
