Sandy still wants to help Rebecca with her case and tries to convince her not to run again and they end up running away and stranded in a run-down motel. Kirsten is devastated and confides in Julie about her marriage problems. Meanwhile, Seth thinks he's lost Summer forever until Summer is unable to hide from her feelings once and for all, when she considers leaving Newport with Zach for a trip to Italy for Zach's sister's wedding. Marissa makes a huge change in her life when she tells her mother about Alex being her girlfriend.
Plot[]
It is POURING in Orange County and there are newscast voiceovers announcing how crazy the weather is. Ryan looks outside of the pool house and sees Seth in the kitchen. Seth and Ryan both wave at each other to come out and talk but they both don't decide to in the rain even as Seth teases Ryan with bagels. Seth and Ryan talk on the phone about their girl problems. Seth is worried he will lose Summer when she goes to Italy with Zach and Ryan hasn't talked to Lindsay since she ran out of the party in The Father Knows Best. Lightning and thunder begin and Ryan and Seth refuse to leave the comfort of being dry.
Kirsten lies in bed looking at a picture of her and Sandy. She puts it face down as Sandy emerges from the bathroom. Kirsten plans on staying in bed all day and Sandy says it is like they are strangers. They talk about their last conversation and Sandy receives yet another freaking call from Rebecca (ugh). Kirsten hears them and runs out of bed away from Sandy. Rebecca wants to properly say goodbye but Sandy wants to talk about their case. Julie is toasting bagels when Marissa comes in with Alex. Julie meets her and asks if they would like bagels for breakfast. Julie turns around and Marissa and Alex decide to make out without her knowledge. When Julie turns back around, they stop before she sees and Alex says goodbye to both of them.
Julie asks Marissa to let her know next time when Marissa wants to have a friend over and says she has the right to know what goes on in the house. Julie asks about what is going on with Marissa and gets excited when she decides to tell her. Marissa tells her not to freak out or cry and tells her mom that Alex is her girlfriend. Julie is speechless and tries not to have a reaction. Lindsay is practicing the oboe when the doorbell rings. She hesitates in answering and looks at her packed suitcase. She then gets a knock at her window and she opens it to find Ryan in the rain. He asks to talk with her inside and that he rode his bike there and is freezing. She helps him climb through and he can't help but notice her suitcase. Lindsay says it was meant for her to live with her dad but isn't so sure he is her dad. Lindsay then tells Ryan she is thinking of leaving for Chicago. Ryan doesn't understand why and she says that it would be best for her to start over. Ryan tries to convince her to stay and she doesn't know what to do exactly and Ryan wants to go with her to the DNA test.
Summer is trying on her bridesmaid dress and hears a knock at the door thinking it is Zach but it is Seth. Seth is wearing a Spiderman mask that he used since he hates hats and doesn't have a rain jacket. Seth notices that Summer is actually leaving and she shows him her bridesmaid dress. Seth realizes how serious Summer and Zach are getting and he changes what he was going to tell her. He wishes her a nice flight and trip and sadly leaves. Sandy meets Rebecca and she tells him she doesn't want to run anymore. Sandy encourages her to come back and take on the case. Marissa barges into Alex's and kisses her, saying she told her mom about them. Alex assumes she did it to piss her off and Marissa says she told her so it could feel more real. Alex tells her to stay and they continue to make out.
Lindsay and Ryan get back from the paternity test and she thanks him for going with her. Lindsay and Ryan start making out and talk about the results. Ryan says that Caleb will adopt her if the results come back positive and she wouldn't have to leave. Lindsay says she couldn't go to Chicago without him and they snuggle together. Kirsten sits in her office when Julie walks in. Kirsten brings up her marriage problems over cigars and scotch. They talk about how messy their lives have been and they try to figure out whose life is more messy. Kirsten tells Julie about Sandy and Rebecca and Julie tells Kirsten about Marissa's girlfriend. Kirsten tells Julie it should just be a phase and Julie reveals that it was for her. Julie then says that Kirsten will work things out with Sandy but she isn't sure this time. Julie then says that Kirsten and Sandy are the best and must make it.
Sandy and Rebecca run into road blocks that won't be open until the next morning. They have to stay in a hotel together... Seth is listening to sad music in his room when Ryan comes in. Seth tells him it did not go well and he is out of romantic gestures. Ryan brings up the Summer Breeze and this gives Seth an idea. He thinks that getting back his boat will be the grand romantic gesture to get Summer back. Ryan points out that Seth no longer has the boat since he sold it and Seth plans on buying it back. Ryan then points out that Seth has no money but he plans on finding a way around that.
Summer is in her room staring at Seth's contact in her phone listening to the same sad music Seth was listening to. She puts her phone away when Zach comes in. Zach sees all the luggage she plans on taking and says he doesn't know how she will bring it all since they will be backpacking. Summer starts freaking out and isn't too excited about putting everything in one backpack, being in his sister's wedding, and starts rethinking the trip. Zach notices and reassures her.
Seth goes to Alex's wanting his job back at The Bait Shop and Alex gives in. He thanks her and asks for his last paycheck. Alex goes to grab it and then Marissa comes from the bedroom in a robe asking Alex a question. Seth sees her and Marissa sees Seth. Alex runs out realizing what just happened and all three of them stand in shock. Seth rubs his eyes and says that Alex broke up with him for Marissa. Alex gives him his money and practically pushes him out the door. Seth jokingly thanks both Alex and Marissa and encourages their relationship LOL.
At the motel Sandy and Rebecca are staying at TOGETHER, they have wine and vending machine snacks. Rebecca says it is like fate that they are there together and tries to kiss Sandy. Sandy stops her saying that they haven't been together for over 20 years and that he needs to call Kirsten. Seth tries getting Summer Breeze back from the guy he sold it to but it no longer looks like the Summer Breeze as there were serious modifications done. Kirsten lies in bed and gets a call from Sandy. He starts explaining to her that the roads are blocked off and is willing to walk home to her in the rain. Kirsten asks him to get home as soon as he can and hangs up.
Julie talks with Marissa about her relationship with Alex saying that she also experimented at her age and understands that Marissa is going through a phase. She says she won't make a big deal of it as Marissa continues to pack a bag. Julie asks where she is going and Marissa tells her that she is moving out and living with Alex. Ryan and Seth get the new and totally inappropriate version of Seth's boat that says "Gimme Sex" on the side of it into the living room. Seth plans on putting the boat in the pool and getting Summer to come over. Ryan doesn't think that will go over well considering the new appearance of the boat. Seth says it will work and then tells Ryan that Marissa and Alex are dating now. Ryan is shocked and they wonder if it's real as Kirsten walks in telling Ryan that Lindsay's results are back.
Zach is helping Summer with her bags to the airport and she realizes she left Princess Sparkle behind. Summer goes back to her room to grab her when she gets a call from Seth on her phone who asks her to come over and that he wants Summer to give him another shot. Summer says he has no right to do so and threatens to hang up with him until Seth asks if what her and Zach have is similar to her and Seth. Summer gets frustrated and yells at Seth for leaving her and says she is now leaving him and hangs up. Lindsay, Ryan, Kirsten, Caleb, and Renee wait for the results in silence. The doctor comes in and tells them the results. Lindsay Gardner is in fact the daughter of Caleb Nichol. Caleb tells Lindsay he knew she was his daughter and hugs her.
Ryan goes back into Seth's room who tells him how bad it went, yet again, with Summer. Ryan tells Seth that Lindsay is really Caleb's daughter and that she is moving in with Caleb. Sandy is rushing to get back to Kirsten. Rebecca asks to talk about the other night but Sandy says that they only have the case and traffic to talk about. Rebecca assumes it meant nothing and Sandy says it meant everything to him 20 years ago (finally getting some clarity). Sandy says he has a family now that he loves and is not going to throw it away. Sandy then says that he needs to get back to Newport and make sure they know that with his eyes off the road and then Rebecca notices him about to run into a car and they swerve off the road. Sandy gets out and helps Rebecca out of the car when a trucker asks if they are okay and will call 911. Rebecca freaks out and decides to run away again, agreeing with Sandy that what they had was a long time ago and it's time to let it go. Rebecca runs off with all her stuff through the rain.
Summer is waiting with Zach, Elaine, and Abigail for their flight to Italy. Summer gets another phone call from Seth and doesn't answer it. Summer is still struggling to have conversations with the Stevens Family and steps aside to compose herself. She then listens to her messages, one being from Seth, who apologizes for leaving things the way he did and voices Captain Oats for him. Marissa is trying to settle in Alex's but seems to have trouble doing so. Alex is leaving for work and asks Marissa to walk her. Alex then brings up rent and this scares Marissa. Ryan visits Lindsay who is continuing to pack her things. Ryan asks if she called Caleb to let him know but Lindsay says no and tells Ryan she is for sure leaving Newport and going to Chicago. Lindsay says she doesn't want to be Caleb's daughter and says that she can't leave her mom. Ryan says he understands and they hug one last time.
Seth tries to turn on the T.V. but the satellite is out (uh duh, you're currently in a rainstorm). Seth is upset but plans on fixing it, somehow. Zach finds Summer and tells her that their flight has been delayed and asks for Summer's help with his sister who is freaking out about her wedding. Summer agrees until she sees a kid playing with a horse that reminds her of Captain Oats and a little boy that reminds her of Seth. Summer looks at Zach and starts crying, telling him she can't go with him. Zach sees who she was looking at and makes the connection. He seems to understand, telling her he didn't think she would make it past security. Summer apologizes and kisses him and Zach lets her go. Sandy is on a bus back to Newport and finds Kirsten waiting for him at the stop. Sandy says that nothing could ever keep him from her and she asks if it is over. Sandy says it never started and they kiss.
Seth climbs the roof with his Spiderman mask on and rope in an attempt to fix the satellite. He ties himself to the chimney and tries his best to fix it and falls off the roof hanging upside down. Alex and Marissa make it to The Bait Shop and Marissa leaves but sees Ryan standing in the rain by the pier. She runs over to him with an umbrella and asks if he is okay. Ryan says he is but she knows him better than that and stands with her arm around him. Summer runs out of a cab and straight to the Cohen's front door but no one answers. She walks right in looking for Seth and hears him outside. She finds Seth upside down in his Spiderman mask and Seth is surprised to see her. She moves down his mask to reveal just his lips and kisses him.

Trivia[]

- This episode marks the final appearance of guest stars Shannon Lucio as Lindsay Gardner and Kim Delaney as Rebecca Bloom.
- Coincidentally, during the week that this episode aired, major rain storms had been falling in Orange County where the episodes take place. This gave the illusion that the episode was "actually occuring" since major storms are uncommon in the area.
