Synopsis[]

Summer soul-searches during a visit from Seth. Taylor pleads for Ryan's help with her marriage. Sandy longs for a guys' night. Julie vows to turn over a new leaf in moving on from Marissa's death.

Plot[]

Summer is in counseling to manage her grief over Marissa's death. (She moves through the five stages of grief in a 30 second montage of one week's sessions.)

Seth is then seen talking with Ryan on the phone after getting off the plane to Providence and he is worried that Summer will break up with him. But Ryan assures him that she still loves him, until Seth sees Summer around the corner and they kiss.

Later, Ryan is doing his run on the beach while Sandy does his surfing. They talk about how Seth called Ryan earlier and Sandy is wondering how Seth and Summer are doing. Ryan then states that he will start his new job at El Pavo Guapo later in the afternoon. Sandy then jokes that he now has an excuse to come by for fish tacos, leading Ryan to say that he is limited to 2 a week after Kristen warned Ryan about it. Ryan then says he would walk back and Sandy again jokes that he wasn't offering Ryan a ride.

At Brown, Seth and Summer are laying in bed in her dorm room. He then says that things turned out was a lot better than when he was on the plane, thinking Summer was going to break up with him. Summer then apologizes to Seth saying that she turned into a liberal zealot to distract herself from her own grief. Seth then asks if the old Summer is back and she replies in her artificially tanned glory and he stated he wasn't sure that the new her and old him was truly working. Summer replies that the new her smelled weird and then asks what Seth would have done if she didn't go back to being the old her, he then says he had plan to coax the old her out. He gives her a box of The Valley, Season Three, and she kisses him.

Back at the Cohens, Sandy and Kirsten are discussing how Sandy has no guy friends to hang out with now that Ryan has begun his new job. Kirsten suggests that Sandy asks Jason Spitz to hang out with him, but he feels a bit skeptical to the idea.

Julie is seen on the phone talking with Neil until Kaitlin comes into the kitchen, where Julie tells her daughter that Neil will allow them to stay in his house for as long as they want. Kaitlin then says that Julie cannot live without a man around her. The two then decide to make a wager that, if Julie doesn't think about men, Kaitlin will stay out of trouble. They shake on it just as Taylor comes into the kitchen. Kaitlin then gives Taylor a letter from Henri-Michel who walks out of the room.

Ryan is officially beginning his first shift at El Pavo Guapo until he notices Taylor walking by and she asks when Seth would be back, but Ryan states he is gone for the weekend. Taylor then tells Ryan of how she is trying to get divorced to Henri-Michel and found out he is coming to Newport and will attempt to talk her out of it. She then asks for Ryan to help, who initially refuses, until she states that if she goes alone she could end up back in France by the next week. Taylor says how she has no one left to turn to for help and asks him again. He agrees to help her.

After a day of shopping at the mall, it's clear that Summer doesn't find such frivolous activity as rewarding as in the past. She is drawn back to her new friends and their most recent worthy cause. Seth worries about whether or not he fits into her new life, her "go-GREEN phase", but she assures him that she still loves him. He encourages her to follow her new calling and takes off for home ahead of schedule.

Sandy realizes he has no male friends left and tries to change that by awkwardly asking Jason 'Spitzy' Spitz to hang out. Their attempt to play golf is hampered by their ringing cell phones. They end up at a bar, drinking beers and watching a game. He takes a phone call from Kirsten and ends up going home to be with her.

After the break-up with Neil, Julie makes a bet with Kaitlin: Julie stays away from men, Kaitlin from trouble. Taylor joins them in the kitchen, mentioning how much she likes staying in Summer's room and "how did she ever live without a home gym?" Kirsten and Julie begin plans to go back into business together. Julie and Kaitlin's wager doesn't work out so well and they both end up in a club, where Julie is dancing wildly with a younger man and "Newpsie" friend Taryn Baker, while Kaitlin used a fake ID to get in (Eric and Brad Ward are denied entry by the door man).

Taylor asks Ryan to help her to get out of her marriage with Henri-Michel from France. Due to a French law, Taylor has to prove her infidelity. At first Ryan refuses to get involved, but eventually comes to her rescue by kissing her in front of Henri-Michel's lawyer. Taylor gets her divorce and is obviously swept off her feet. Later in the evening, she surprises Ryan in the pool house with a home-made peach torte as a thank you gift. As she leaves, it is clear she has developed feelings for him.
