Ryan and Marissa is the relationship between Ryan Atwood-Cohen and Marissa Cooper, two of the main characters in the Fox drama series The O.C.. They meet in the premiere episode and have an instant connection that leads to an on and off relationship until Marissa's untimely death.
Summary[]
Ryan Atwood is the second official boyfriend of Marissa Cooper in the series. Although extremely on-and-off throughout the course of the series, their relationship originated from a Platonic friendship in the pilot episode, which subsequently turned into romantic feelings. From the tenth episode of the first season, the couple officially started their romantic relationship. The beginning of this relationship sees its first end when Marissa feels that Ryan has exaggerated with the friendship between her and Oliver Trask. The second course of their relationship fails due to Theresa Diaz and their illegitimate child, which Ryan agrees to help grow - returning to Theresa Diaz's arms and letting Marissa return to her drinking habits. The third attempt of the relationship between Marissa and Ryan ends after the suicide of Johnny Harper where to cry and need a break from each other. The last attempt of a couple's relationship ends when Marissa is killed by a drunken Kevin Volchok who sends Ryan and Marissa's car off the road, killing her instantly.

- Throughout the series Ryan and Marissa break up three times for various reasons:
- Ryan attempts to inform Marissa of Oliver's lies and his unhealthy obsession with her, though she refuses to believe him. After repeated attempts to get her to turn against Oliver, Marissa breaks things off with Ryan
- After discovering that Theresa is seemingly pregnant with his child, as the two had been in a relationship during Ryan and Marissa's break-up, Ryan decides to move back to Chino with Theresa despite his feelings for Marissa
- Johnny's death caused conflict in Ryan and Marissa's relationship and Ryan started spending more time with Sadie, Johnny's cousin. He called Marissa to tell her that he felt things weren't working and she agreed with him
- Their song is Forever Young by Youth Group.
- They share their first kiss in The Heights.
- They have sex for the first time in The End of Innocence.
